Chemical Hearts (2020)

First up on the list is Chemical Hearts. It is a romantic drama adaptation of the novel Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland, featuring Riverdale star, Lili Reinheart, and The Walking Dead actor, Austin Abrams.

This movie isn’t your quintessential coming-of-age film; Chemical Hearts explores young love through a darker, albeit more realistic lens. It revolves around seventeen-year-old, Henry Page (Abrams) and transfer student, Grace Town (Reinheart). As the two are paired together to co-edit the school newspaper, Henry is immediately drawn to the enigmatic newcomer. He learns about the heartbreaking secret that haunts her, and Henry inevitably falls in love with Grace. Or at least who he thinks she is….

Will Henry and Grace end up together, or will their story be a cautionary tale for young love? Guess you’ll have to watch it and see for yourself!

Arkansas (2020)

This August, John Brandon’s best-selling novel, ARKANSAS, comes to life on the silver screen. Liam Hemsworth, best known for his role as Gale in The Hunger Games Trilogy, is joined by Kick-Ass actor Clark Duke in this suspense-filled thriller film.

The story revolves around two low-level drug couriers, Kyle (Hemsworth) and Swin (Duke), who work for Arkansas drug kingpin, “Frog”. They operate under Frog’s orders and pose as junior park rangers by day. Swin starts to settle into his day job while Kyle tries to make sense of his courier stint by figuring out who their mysterious boss is. All is well. But when a deal goes awry, things start to take a turn for the worse.

Buckle your seatbelts, folks, because this film is going to be a wild ride. From action scenes to nail-biting plot lines, this movie will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Capone (2020)

The life of a mob leader isn’t all guns and money. Capone, a biographical drama film, gives us a more in-depth look into the notorious Chicago gangster, Al Capone’s life. Starring British actor Tom Hardy, this movie takes the audience beyond the bullets and the billions. It delves into the eventful but tragic life of one of history’s most infamous mobsters.

After he is released from jail after almost a decade of imprisonment, Capone is now 40 years old and is trying to settle into normalcy with his family in Palm Island, Florida. On top of his slowly disintegrating mental stability, Al Capone struggles to pay his debts and resorts to selling many of his remaining belongings in order to get by. Day by day, his insanity gets worse, and he begins to hallucinate and has recurring visions of the gruesome crimes he committed in the past. His mental capacity deteriorates as he tries to cope with being alienated from everyone around him and the guilt he feels from his past.

Haunting as it is compelling, viewers will love this film and will surely be left speechless by the end of the movie.

Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019)

If you grew up watching Nickelodeon, then you probably know who Dora is. This adventure comedy film is an adaptation of the children’s show, Dora the Explorer. Though still geared towards the younger audience, Dora and the Lost City of Gold is very different from its animated counterpart

In this version of the T.V. show, Dora, played by actress, Madelyn Miranda, is now 16-years old and is staying with her cousin, Diego, in L.A. while her parents search for the hidden Inca city of Gold Parapata. Unlike the T.V. show, Dora and Diego aren’t very friendly towards each other as Diego expresses his embarrassment when Dora begins to attend the same high school as him. While on a class field trip to a museum, Dora and her friends get abducted by a band of mercenaries aided by her nemesis, Swiper. They are brought to Peru but are eventually saved by Alejandro, a friend of Dora’s parents, who also inform them that her parents are missing. Dora then sets off to save her parents along with her friends, her trusty backpack, and sidekick, Boots.

Giving a quirky and unique twist to the childhood classic, Dora and the Lost City of Gold is jam-packed with action and humor that the whole family is going to love!
